JHSD is a dynamic blues band based in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The group, composed of Johnny Hastings (vocals and guitar), Caleb Buum (bass), and Oakley Rathbun (drums), reunited after nearly a decade apart, driven by their shared passion for blues music. Their sound is deeply rooted in traditional Blues and Americana influences, reflecting the rugged and soulful essence of western South Dakota. 

Musical Style and Influence

The band’s music is inspired by vintage blues ensembles from the 1960s to 1980s, blending soulful vocals, virtuosic guitar work, and tight rhythm sections to create a captivating and danceable blues experience. Johnny Hastings, hailed as one of South Dakota’s rising guitarists, leads the group with his expressive playing and commanding voice, which bring a rare energy to their performances.
